SELECTED CHOREOGRAPHERS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE XI COMPETITION FOR CONTEMPORARY CHOREOGRAPHY ON BULGARIAN MUSIC FOR THE MARGARITA ARNAUDOVA AWARD
RAPHAEL MIRO HOLZER, AUSTRIA Rafael Miro Holzer is choreographer, director and educator based in Barcelona and Vienna. He received his ballet education at the University of Music and Arts in Vienna. He specialized in contemporary dance at the Austrian University of Music, Drama and Dance "Anton Bruckner". In the period 2018-2021, he graduated and received the degree of Bachelor of Arts, Choreography and Interpretation, from the Theater Institute, Barcelona, Spain. In 2021, he founded the vanholzers dance company as a platform for his further choreography work. He received the "Best Choreography" award from the Moving Body Festival for the film "Truth is in the Details", which is currently screening at film festivals around the world. The choreographer is supported for his participation in the Competition by the Embassy of the Republic of Austria in Bulgaria
In a mesmerizing dance of shadow and light, this ethereal performance takes the audience into a transcendent odyssey. There the enigmatic interplay of death and love unfolds a visual meditation on the tapestry of our existence. “When the last shadow comes to douse the white radiance of day, it well may close my eyes; it may unbind mu soul, so that it flies free, towards its eager wish, full of delight…” Francisco de Quevedo.
STEPHANIE HANDJIISKA, BULGARIA Stephanie Handjiiska is a Bulgarian choreographer and dance artist based in London, UK. Her work explores femininity, belonging, beauty, and deals with big metaphysical questions and social themes. Stephanie is an alumna of the MA Contemporary Dance at London School of Contemporary Dance, the New Bulgarian University with a BA in Anthropology, and NATFA, Bulgaria with a BA in Dance. In London, she works with names such as ABBA, Studio Wayne McGregor, Woolwich Works, The Place London, Rambert and others, and her work on migration is supported by Arts Council England. Ms Handjiiska has won numerous awards for her work, including the Sofia Municipality Award for Contemporary Performing Arts and an "IMPULS" Bulgarian Dance Award for the project "Focus Kino Tanc", the European Commission "Juvenes Translatores" award for translation, and a nomination for the "ICAR" award for contemporary dance and performance for "Ion (a play on adoption)".

ELENA MARINOVA, BULGARIA
Elena Marinova is a contemporary artist from Bulgaria. She is a graduate of Trinity Laban and specializes in contemporary dance. Elena is actively involved in organizing events that aim to develop the Bulgarian art community. She is a member of the DUNE Dance Company, founder of the DANCE FRAME Collective, and also works as a freelance choreographer. Throughout her career, she has drawn inspiration from numerous international artists, but the choreography process of Nigel Charnock has had the biggest influence on her. Although she is still a newcomer, she has successfully staged several dance works, including "Geography of Sighs" at ATOM Theatre, "WHEN I AM NOT NAKED ON STAGE, I FEEL SO OLD FASHIONED" at Bonnie Bird Theater, and "Something Stupid or Thoughts about How I Move" on the stage of Toplocentrala.

"Light Hunter" is a dance performance that explores the feeling of anxiety and its effects on individuals who face social pressures. The term 'light hunter' refers to those who seek light as a means to escape their fears and find the light within themselves. The dance piece follows the journey of a depersonalized light seeker who experiences the turmoil of fatigue, social tension, loneliness, and inner struggle. When we search for ourselves in our thoughts, it's easy to get lost in a labyrinth. But is there a way out? Light is a moment that reveals all and can be both seen and heard, leaving us with a sense of clarity and understanding.
MIKKEL ALEXANDER TOETTRUP, DENMARK
Dancer, creator and choreographer Mikkel Alexander Toetrup is a Copenhagen-based choreographer and dancer from Denmark. In 2020, he graduated from Iwanson International School (contemporary Dance) in Munich Germany. Teaches contemporary dance at Stepz Dance Education, Copenhagen Denmark; at the Danish School of Performing Arts; Contemporary Dance / Fredericia, DK; at Savery Academy. Mikel's choreography works have been presented at numerous international festivals and competitions. His original choreography works: "Barbarian Sun" with the Royal Danish Ballet / Copenhagen, Denmark; : "JALA'' winner in residence of the XVII Choreography Competition / Sabadell, ES; performance "The Gray Zone", nunArt Guinardo / Barcelona, Spain; “Chicks” at Teater Momentum for the HS Andersens Festival / Odense, Denmark; and others.

"Oblivious Days" challenges societal norms and prompts introspection through a multi-layered experience that explores themes of disharmony, resilience, and the quest for humanity. This performance blends intense physicality, multimedia projections, and symbolic costumes. Within this three-part performance, we encounter three central characters: GIRL, BOY, and COUPLE. Each of them serves as a catalyst, encouraging the audience to reflect on their own roles in perpetuating disharmony. The audience is transported to a captivating world that challenges perception right in the middle of an apocalypse.
We are pleased to announce the results of the 10th competition for contemporary choreography on Bulgarian music for the award named after Margarita Arnaudova.
The AUDIENCE AWARD was won by Nadezhda Dicheva for the performance "Curves". The prize - a painting by the artist Dimitar Kirov, was presented by Academician Kalina Bogoeva, founder of the Competition and honorary chairman of the professional jury.
The JURY AWARD was shared between choreographers Deyan Georgiev for the performance "Clean" and Tanya Katsarova for the performance "Next"

Clean automata or conscious independence?
“ Clean “ is a journey from the closed, capsuled self to the exposed, vulnerable contact.
A timeline that crosses past, now and after with only one possibility of outcome -
the ease and drive of the primordial, that sleeps.
The primordial that we can find in the eyes of the stranger.
"The Air We Raised Together" is a dance thriller about air pollution and the conflict between civic responsibility and personal agendas. This dystopian world of the piece investigates what happens when the air we breathe becomes so toxic that it threatens our very existence. As our world becomes completely uninhabitable, the entertainment we choose to distract ourselves with conceals the truth that our bodies cannot ignore any longer.
The invisible hand, which had grasped my throat, weakens its grip and ultimately disappears entirely. I glance towards the place, from where up until just a moment ago fear had been stalking me like a predator. A heart stands there! Worn out, with sorrowful eyes, frightened, barely able to await the outreach of my hand to grab onto it.
Simply an abandoned child. The loneliness forced it to howl against the darkness. My heart compelled me to search for it before the darkness completely engulfs it.

The winner of the Audience Award and of the International Jury Award of the IX International Competition for Contemporary Choreography based on Bulgarian music for Margarita Arnaudova Award with his performance "EXIT", music by Dobrinka Tabakova.
FILIP MILANOV - BULGARIA
Filip was born in 1989 in Sofia. In 2014 he graduated as Bachelor in National Academy for Theater and Film Arts "Krystju Sarafoff", specialty “Theater movement”. Since 2012, he is working as a dancer in the Ballet "Arabesque" and in 2013 he also started to work in Derida Dance company, where he participates in various international festivals and projects in collaboration with other European and Asian artists.
"Exit" explores the desire of the individual to escape from social censorship and prohibitations.
We wish to determine ourselves from the others, but you are able to separate?
Each of us has conducted its partial escapes, but is there an EXIT on the road to freedom?
GALINA SREBREVA - BULGARIA
She graduated from the NSDA in 1996 in the class of Prof. Kalina Bogoeva and Milena Simeonova. She's been a classical dancer with the Sofia National Opera and Ballet since 1996 and a soloist since 2004. She has participated in international ballet competitions and seminars. In 2002 she graduated Ballet Pedagogy, Choreography and Directing at the Academy of Music and Dance in Plovdiv. She has choreographed miniatures, contemporary dance routines, children's shows and one-act ballets, some of which have won awards from national and international ballet competitions. In 2012 she won second honorary degree for Original Contemporary Choreography - IBC Varna and in 2014 - award for contemporary choreography - National Competition for Young Ballet Dancers "Anastas Petrov" – Dobrich.
I Should Have Told You

Words! With or without them, it is important to avoid the dead end street of missed opportunities, called "I should have told you".
Words! With their help we can share so many things: our emotions, expectations, dreams ... Why do we find it so difficult to use them? Why are we silent, when we need to talk? Why do we say one thing when we mean something else? Why do we indulge in verbosity when it is better to remain silent?
NOA ATAR – ISRAEL
Noa Atar is an independent dancer and choreographer. She graduated from the Jerusalemdance academy, specialized in choreography. “’Jamed Ensemble” and worked with several Israeli contemporary choreographers. Noa has 3rd award of the Gertrud Krauss choreography competition in 2009 for her piece “Katchkes” and in 2010 – for her performance “4x4”.
The piece will be inspired by feminine idols of beauty and success. The three ladies/dancers will struggle with their will to fit the right social feminine idol. In this piece the choreographer choose to deal with the dialogue between our attempts to fit society’s gender oriented expectations and resemble idols of beauty and success to being loyal to ourselves, and satisfied with who we are.
ANTHONY MIDDLETON – UNITED KINGDOM
Anthony is a choreographer based in Leeds (UK) with his company, “theMiddletonCorpus”.
Before training as a dancer, Anthony competed as an international level Acrobatic Gymnast.
He trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) and has performed with companies and projects both in theUKand internationally, including BalletBoyz (UK), Motionhouse (UK), Cas Public (Canada) and Tanz Luzerner Theater (Switzerland).
Anthony established “theMiddletonCorpus” in 2011, and his work has been performed around theUKandEurope. In 2013 he is a finalist of ‘ilDance Choreographic competition-Sweden.
“A Drop in the Ocean” explores the concept of loneliness and emptiness, the feeling that there is something missing in our lives.
The choreographer is interested in the paradox that this feeling of emptiness may feel so profound to us individually but, in the busy chaotic world, it can seem so insignificant; a drop in the ocean.
Three dancers in the space, each one in their own existence, are searching to make connections.
LIAT MAGNEZY - ISRAEL/NETHERLANDS
Liat Magnezy is a choreographer, born in Israel in 1974. She studied fine art in college "Ascola", Tel Aviv and dance "KibutzimCollege" in Tel Aviv. In 2003 she moved to the Netherlands where during her studies at CodArts Rotterdam specializes choreography and was awarded Scapino Production Prize, Hanover 2005 for her work "and she was ...".
In 2007, she established her own foundation DanceMotionPicture. Her performances were shown at various festivals in Europe andIsrael.

Sofiais the one of the few European cities that does not have a river that flows through it.Sofiais surrounded with mountains. This geographical fact is the starting point for this project. Metaphorically speaking a river stands for the qualities of change, for it’s dynamic characteristics. It is a place of movement. It is very often a central point or a point of reference for it’s inhabitant.

Тазгодишното издание на конкурса беше посветено на 70-годишнината от рождението на голямата българска хореографка Маргарита Арнаудова и се реализира с подкрепата на Министерство на културата, Столична община, фондация „Етюд” и се проведе съвместно с фондация „Калина Богоева”.
АСЕН НАКОВ бе безспорният фаворит на публиката и журито и стана новият носител на възпоменателната награда на името на Маргарита Арнаудова и на наградата на професионалното жури със спектакъла си „Малки правила” по музика на Румен Бояджиев-син.
Журито присъди и поощрителна награда за иновативна идея на АЛЕКСАНДАР ГЕОРГИЕВ за спектакъла „BAREBACK” по музика на Стефан Гълъбов.
В програмата на конкурсната вечер: „Малки правила” Музика – Румен Бояджиев син Хореография – Асен Наков Асен Наков завършва Държавно хореографско училище през 1995 г. при Румен Рашев и Иван Трифонов. Солист на балет „Арабеск”. Танцува в над 40 постановки на водещи български и чужди хореографи. От 2010 г. работи като хореограф и преподавател по съвременен танц.
„РадиоАктивни” Музика – Phuture Shock, Блуба Лу, Трипъл Ей, Хореография – Николина Тодорова Костюми – Йоанна Веселинова Николина Тодорова завършва Нов Български университет, бакалавър, специалност – Танцов театър. Ms Handjiiska has won numerous awards for her work, including the Sofia Municipality Award for Contemporary Performing Arts and an "IMPULS" Bulgarian Dance Award for the project "Focus Kino Tanc", the European Commission "Juvenes Translatores" award for translation, and a nomination for the "ICAR" award for contemporary dance and performance for "Ion (a play on adoption)".
